General Meeting of R&S Community Trust

Added at 12:16 on 08 November 2025

18 November at 7pm at Rhu and Shandon Community Hall: Click here to see the Agenda

We will be giving a full update on what we have been doing, financial reports and, importantly, the election of Trustees.  The existing Trustees who registered the charity are all prepared to stand for election and if anyone would like to join the Board please come forward.  If anyone wishes to raise an issue, submit a motion or nominate trustees please contact us at rhushandontrust@gmail.com

This meeting is not our AGM.  The charity was registered at the end of March 2025 so we will not have a full year of accounts etc until after next March.  However, as it is a year since we embarked on the purchase of Ardenconnel Wood and set about establishing the Trust it is time for a full update on where we are, and the Trustees who registered the Charity seek election from the membership.  In order to vote people must be registered members of the Trust, membership is free and the key obligation is to vote for the Board of Trustees.  A membership form is included in this mailing and I have also included the Constitution that the Trust is bound by.   Please could you complete and return your membership form to rhushandontrust@gmail.com

We have busy with various things and will give a full update on 18 November.  However in brief, we have almost finalised our logos – one version is at the top of the page, we hope you like it!  We held our first event in the woods in September with a photography workshop in partnership with Cove Park and a wonderful performance of a specially composed woodland piece by Louise Burnet.

We successfully applied to the Argyll and Bute Supporting Communities Fund for £1,477 to purchase safety clothing, loppers and saws for when we start work in the wood.  We have also been successful with a funding application to Walking Scotland for the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport Communities Path Fund and have received a grant of £10,000 to repair and upgrade Lover’s Lane in Rhu.

The Community Survey we undertook in March in partnership with Rhu and Shandon Community Council to gauge opinions on Ardenconnel Wood and as part of the Local Place Plan, identified improvements in pathway maintenance as the highest priority need in the category for Active Travel and Transport. Lover’s Lane was identified as the highest priority pathway in need of repair and upgrade with over 95% of respondents saying that it was a high or medium priority. Whilst waiting for the Ardenconnel Wood purchase to come to fruition we thought the Trust could address something else that we had a clear direction on as something that would be of wide community benefit, and which reflects the purpose and objectives of the charity.

We have registered Rhu and Shandon Community Trust on the Movement for Good website to be entered into their fund raising draw for £1,000. This runs on how many nominations a charity receives.  It is an outside chance but worth a try and if you would like to nominate RSCT please follow this link and enter our name Movement for Good
