Livestock Worrying on our Patch

Dog Walkers are warned that they should keep their dogs under control when walking on farmland
Recently on the path from Helensburgh to Glen Fruin, a dog attacked a sheep and the owner left the sheep to die.
If you see a dog walker behaving irresponsibly please dial 101 and make a report. We are told that Officers will respond promptly.
Stress can be caused to animals not only by chasing or attack, but by just the presence of dogs - particularly when pregnant or rearing their young.
Those of you who receive the Alerts from Neighbourhood Watch will know that in a case on the Cowal penisular in January, Police enquiries led to the owner of the dog being charged with a contravention of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 which will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. The owner and the offending dog will also be subject of a Dog Control Notice.
