Save Rhu Hall:Meeting 5th June

Added at 20:26 on 02 June 2025

Message from Sue Thornley: Chair of Rhu and Shandon Community Centre.

The Management Committee of Rhu and Shandon Community Centre, known locally as Rhu Hall, are calling on all local people who use the building and those who don’t at present, to support the Hall as Argyll and Bute Council have notified us that they will no longer fund the building, we must sign a full-repairing lease and be responsible for all expenditure and repairs in the future.

The Hall was built by public subscription in 1907 and has served the village well over the years. Currently users include several badminton groups, pilates classes, karate, the Writers Group, KangaRhu nursery, Ian McLeod School of Dance and the Edible Garden. There are also lots of private parties and the occasional ceilidh.

There will be  a public meeting at the Hall on Thursday 5th June at 7.30pm to discuss the issues and to consider how to raise funds to keep the Hall working for us all in the future. Please come along to offer your help and support to ensure it stays open in the future. We want the village to have a really useful community facility in the long term.
