Japanese knotweed

Added on 30 April 2017

After a slow start, the weed is growing strongly.

Please report any outbreaks via the Feedback page of the website or to any member of the Taskforce. Their names will be on our website, when I have their permission!

There are copies of the leaflet on knotweed identification in Rhu Post Office, in case you are new to the area or have mislaid your copy of the leaflet.

It was reported in this month's Gardening Which that, in a landmark case, Network Rail has been successfully sued for allowing knotweed to spread from a railway embankment into private gardens. This precedent could mean that people with knotweed problems caused by their neighbours could potentially sue for damages.
