27 March 2019Argyll and Bute have a new website

A new Website  www.abplace2b.scot promoting Argyll& Bute has been launched

It builds on the very successful #abplace2b which is being used by the council, its partners and members of the public on Instagram to highlight the many attractions of Argyll and Bute around the world. www.abplace2b.scot is a portal to the information someone wishing to move to Argyll and Bute would want to know. It has links to information on services, schools, jobs and things to do as well as features on some of the businesses and people who live here. The content is planned to be refreshed on a weekly basis with jobs, news, events, case studies etc. As the web portal is for the whole Argyll and Bute area, Argyll & Bute Council would welcome information and input from our partners, local communities and businesses. The Council will promote it on social media and hope partners will also promote it.

27 March 2019Livestock Worrying on our Patch

Dog Walkers are warned that they should keep their dogs under control when walking on farmland

Recently on the path from Helensburgh to Glen Fruin,  a dog attacked a sheep and the owner left the sheep to die.

If you see a dog walker behaving irresponsibly please dial 101 and make a report. We are told that Officers will respond promptly.

Stress can be caused to animals not only by chasing or attack, but by just the presence of dogs - particularly when pregnant or rearing their young.

Those of you who receive the Alerts from Neighbourhood Watch will know that in a case on the Cowal penisular in January, Police enquiries led to the owner of the dog being charged with a contravention of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953 which will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. The owner and the offending dog will also be subject of a Dog Control Notice.

These will now take place between March 14th and March 29th

Details

08 March 2019Sim Swap Fraud

Police Scotland is warning members of the public to be aware of a fraud which has recently resurfaced. A local resident was victim to a mobile telephone SIM fraud which resulted in the loss of a four figure sum of money. This is often referred to as SIM swap, SIM split or SIM interception attack.

The first thing that can alert a victim of this type of fraud is that no service is available on their mobile telephone. The fraudsters bank on the fact that the owner of the mobile telephone does not question this for some time allowing sufficient time to commit the fraud. Only when contacting their respective service provider they discover that their number has been changed claiming a lost or damaged phone was the reason for the new SIM being issued.

You can read more about this scan and many others on Neighbourhood Watch website.

If you have not already done so, you should sign up to receive Alerts from  NW

20 February 2019Fly-tipping

You will see from the minutes of the last meeting that there have been a couple of recent cases of flt-tipping on our patch.

If you are a member of Rural Watch, and if you are not you should certainly think about joining,  some serious flytipping  took place in Glen Masson, near Dunnon which, because the information was circulated on the Rural Watch Network, an individual was arrested, charged and reported to the Procurator Fiscal for a contravention of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

This is the second time in recent months that  Rural Watch has helped the police to apprehend criminals; the first was the theft of  lead etc which had been stripped from an empty house.

Please consider joining Rural Watch and be prepared to do your bit!

Our fly-tippers were not apprehended!
